Design of onboarding pages for PocketProfit, a mobile application designed to simplify personal finances in one location.
The Problem
While all adults handle personal finances to some degree, only 57% of U.S. adults describe themselves as financially literate, meaning that nearly half of all adults does not understand where there money goes, how it is used, and how they can benefit from strategic saving, spending, and budgeting.
Research Insights
73% of smartphone users have used at least one finance app on their device
At least 51% of adults with reoccurring memberships or subscriptions have incurred unwanted charges
Gen-Z (57%) and Millennials (58%) tend to fall victim to these situations more frequently than their elders
Over one-third of U.S. adults find it difficult to cancel or modify automatic subscription charges
71% of U.S. adults waste more than $50 per month on unwanted subscription charges
86% of users don’t finish a registration process if it takes too much time
Key Objective
Considering the research above, I defined my key objective as creating a simplistic onboarding process for PocketProfit that encourages users to create an account based on their individual goals, to create a personalized user experience.
Solution
To fulfill my key objective, the following elements can be found on the PocketProfit onboarding pages:
Dynamic, visually pleasing welcome screen that highlights some of the main benefits and key features of the app to help users understand why they should continue with the onboarding process
User personalization during onboarding to create an unique experience that is beneficial to the needs, goals, and targets of each user
Progress indicators on each onboarding page that includes a progress bar and percentage completed to help manage user expectations and reduce the perceived time investment required
Bold, clear call-to-action buttons on each onboarding page to guide users to the next steps
Key Learnings
This project allowed me the opportunity to generate an app idea and conduct a design process from start to finish, beginning with defining a problem, followed by thorough qualitative and quantitative research collected from a variety of sources within the scope of the target audience. The following steps helped me to create visual presentations of PocketProfit and test for usability, which strengthened my knowledge of design principles to enhance user satisfaction.
