Project Overview

This website was created as a project for my Web II course in during Spring 2023. Guidelines for this project included creating a 4-page, responsive website with BootStrap framework, that incorporates a variety of multimedia elements such as photos, videos, and social media feeds. The goal of this project was to design a responsive and engaging website that highlights a personal interest or passion.

Design Process

The initial stages of this project included conducting research to gain an understanding of the target audience and their preferences for interacting with a cooking-related website.

I concluded my target audience as my Loyola classmates and peers, specifically those who have an interest in the culinary arts.

Considering these insights, I developed a design concept that focused on creating a simplistic, easily navigable user experience.

To enhance user experience, I aimed to create a website that would be responsive across all devices.

Visual Design

The visual design of this website is based on a blend of colors and personal images that I have taken of past meals.

I chose to display high-quality images of diverse dishes across all pages of the website to evoke the user’s interest and passion for the culinary experiences.

When considering typography, I chose an easily legible and visually appealing sans-serif font to enhance the overall presentation of the site.

User Experience

This website features intuitive navigation that encourages users to explore various pages, images, videos, and recipes effortlessly.

I maintained a use of bold headings and clear categorization throughout the website to enable users to easily navigate to their desired location within the website.

Considering my target audience, I utilized minimalistic principles to avoid unnecessary clutter and distractions, which allows both novice and expert-level foodies to explore the website’s content seamlessly.

Development Process

This website was developed using HTML, CSS, and BootStrap framework.

To promote my understanding of the BootStrap framework, I implemented BootStrap’s pre-built components and responsive grid system to expedite the development process.

In accordance with project guidelines, I created custom CSS to instill personal design contributions to the website.

Project Outcomes

This BootStrap cooking portfolio website successfully achieved all objectives of the project, providing users with an engaging and aesthetically pleasing platform to discover new recipes and restaurants.

The website received positive feedback from users that included my professor, Mas Biswas, and classmates, affirming the effectiveness of my design and developmental efforts.

Key Learnings

Over the course of the project, I gained valuable insights into the principles of responsive web design, BootStrap framework, and the importance of user-centered design principles.

This project encouraged me to combine my skills in HTML and CSS with BootStrap framework, to effectively incorporate multiple development frameworks within a single product while working to deliver an appealing visual design.
